The cyclic aza-ylides, 2a, b, that are generated from 6- or 5-membered
cyclic amino phosphonium salts, 1a, b, can react with various carbony
l compounds. The acyclic imine derivatives were obtained by the reacti
on of these cyclic aza-ylides with benzils, and these imine derivative
s were treated with LDA to produce the tetrahydropyridine or tetrahydr
oazepine derivatives.
