Abstract
Even though there are many classification system for mental disorders. few of them are specific for research, This document analyses the fou r most common classification criteria for mental diseases. The first t wo: the ''Research Diagnostic Criteria'' (RDC) and the ''Diagnostic Cr iteria for Research in Psychiatry'' were designed for research, as the ir names state Both of these systems changed the focus of the Diagnost ic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM). The latest editi ons, DSM-III, DSM-III-R and DSM-IV have been used frequently for resea rch. For the first time, the World Health Organization has published a classification systems to be used in this field. The common factor In all of these research classification systems is the strict cut-off po ints which enables the selection of very similar clearly sick groups A s all types of research from the biomedical to the sociomedical, lie i n the precision of its diagnostic systems. this review is very importa nt.
