IMAGE COMMUNICATION OVER A DISTRIBUTED MULTIMEDIA SYSTEM

The processing of images for use in distributed multimedia systems giv es rise to several new issues, In this paper. we identify and address some of these issues. We propose a new method of filtering that can be used to simultaneously compress and de-noise an image, We propose an image transmission scheme that uses the multiresolution structure base d on multisplines, We show that this scheme is robust to network conge stion and cell loss and also has low coding overhead. We include exper imental results to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed denoi sing algorithm and also of the transmission scheme.
