Abstract
Isatoic anhydrides react with excess methyllithium at -78 degrees C to produce tertiary alcohols (9) under bar in high yields. The hydroxyl group of (9) under bar can be dehydrated to give the 2-(2-propenyl)ani lines <(10)under bar> using iodine under azeotropic water removal cond itions. Catalytic hydrogenation of the olefin affords the target 2-iso propylaniline derivatives <(11)under bar>.
