Abstract
1,3-Diaryl-2-Propen-1-one reacted with thiourea in the presence of sod ium ethoxide to furnish 4,6-diarylpyrimidine-2(1H) thione (2) under ba r. The behaviour of (2) under bar towards nitrogen nucleophiles, and c arbon electrophiles under Michael reaction conditions have been invest igated. The oxidation of the thione (2) under bar gave the correspondi ng disulphide derivative <(12)under bar>. Acylation of (2) under bar y ielded the corresponding S-acetyl-<(13)under bar> and N-benzoyl-<(14)u nder bar> derivatives, respectively.
