Abstract
Communication: A simple CVD process for coating titanium dioxide parti cles to improve dispersion, pigment durability, and resistance to visc osity increases in paints is presented. The conventionally used liquid -phase routes are complicated and expensive and often lead to porous l ayers, which have high oil absorption, whereas the continuous, high te mperature gas phase route described here produces dense layers of sili ca. The Figure shows a possible mechanism fur the coating process.
