Abstract
We report four cases in which oxygen intake abruptly decreased during a graded exercise test. In all these cases, there was an acute event ( arrhythmia, mitral regurgitation) that had very likely resulted in a d ecrease in cardiac output. These studies provide new evidence of oxyge n intake dependence on oxygen transport, even in nonsteady-state situa tions.
