Using a new procedure, substituted disilylmethanes have been prepared
from chlorosilanes, dichloromethane, and magnesium in tetrahydrofuran.
Bis(chlorosilyl)methanes can be used as comonomers for the synthesis
of polysilacarbosilanes, which are transformed into polycarbosilanes,
precursors of silicon carbide.
