Abstract
A novel lambda(5)-organospirosilicate 12 has been synthesized which is neutral, molecular and has no ionic charges. One of the four oxygen a toms still displaces a hydrogen atom, which cannot be withdrawn by add ing triethylamine. The X-ray structure characterization of 12 reveals a spirocyclic structure with three short Si-O bonds (1.61-1.66 Angstro m) and a fourth very long Si-O bond (2.74 Angstrom) due to a covalentl y bonded hydrogen atom on oxygen (O-H 0.91 Angstrom). In solution the molecule 12 displays bond fluctuation, as is deduced from NMR spectra.
