M. Uchiyama et al., MEDIASTINAL YOLK-SAC TUMOR IN A YOUNG GIRL - CASE-REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE, Journal of pediatric surgery, 31(9), 1996, pp. 1318-1321
The authors report a rare case of a female infant who underwent succes
sful treatment of a mediastinal yolk sac tumor, Therapy included four
cycles of preoperative PVB (cisplatinum, vinblastine, bleomycin), comp
lete surgical resection of the tumor, and one postoperative cycle of P
VB and four cycles of VAC (vincristine, actinomycine, cyclophosphamide
) chemotherapy. The successful treatment of this tumor depends on preo
perative chemotherapy to reduce the size, followed by complete surgica
l excision with subsequent postoperative chemotherapy. Recent improvem
ents in the treatment of mediastinal yolk sac tumors are discussed. Co
