Abstract
The impact of perceptual organization (PO) and visual confrontation na ming abilities on the Hooper Visual Organization Test (HVOT) was inves tigated in 96 patients referred for neuropsychological evaluation. Sub jects were administered the HVOT, the short form of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised, and the Boston Naming Test (BNT). Multipl e regression analysis revealed that PO abilities and BNT scores accoun ted for 44% and 5% of the variance, respectively, in HVOT performance. To evaluate the impact of impaired naming on the HVOT, a group with i mpaired naming skills was matched on PO abilities to persons with norm al naming skills. These groups did not differ on HVOT performance, sug gesting that the HVOT is mainly a measure of PO and not significantly impacted by poor naming ability.
