Abstract
Growing economic pressure in the hospital field is forcing anaesthesia departments to think over the economic aspects of traditional work co ncepts. With the abolition of today's neither hygienically, medically nor functionally justifiable division into an anaesthesiological prepa ration, operating and aftercare zone a new theatre concept is being di scussed. It provides not only higher cost-efficiancy at a lower base i nvestment (taking into consideration the growing number of ambulatory operations), but also a higher measure of patient security.
