C. Jaekel et al., EMISSION OF PICOSECOND ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSES FROM OPTICALLY-EXCITED SUPERCONDUCTING BRIDGES, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 54(10), 1996, pp. 6889-6892
In this paper we examine the origin of the emission of picosecond elec
tromagnetic pulses from current-biased superconducting bridges after o
ptical excitation with femtosecond laser pulses. The peak frequency an
d the amplitude of the THz pulses are quantitatively correlated to the
optically measured quasiparticle dynamics. We find that reflection an
d absorption within the superconductor fundamentally limit the ratio o
f the transmitted field amplitude to the generated signal to 10(-3).
