Abstract
Experimentally observed induced magnetism on Rh and Ru when alloyed wi th Co is studied within a tight binding linear muffin-tin orbital (TB- LMTO) method in atomic sphere approximation (ASA). Different possible crystal structures of Co(3)M (M = Rh,Ru) are considered and it is show n that the hexagonal close packed (hcp) structure is the most stable w ith induced magnetic moments on Rh and Ru. Some other off-stoichiometr ic structures such as Co(71)M(29) and Co(67)M(33) are also considered. The band theory explains quite well the observed induced magnetism in different cases.
