Abstract
Field distributions in granular spherical samples are discussed analyt ically. It is shown that (i) all grains in the bulk of the sample are exposed to essentially the applied field, and (ii) grains on the surfa ce of the sample see both smaller and higher fields depending on wheth er they are near the poles or near the equator of the sample.
