L-subshell ionization cross sections for Au induced by Si-28 and S-32
ions in the energy range 10-15 MeV have been investigated. The experim
ental ionization cross section for the L(2)-subshell shows an unexpect
ed suppression for the S-32 ion as compared to the Si-28 ion result. A
ccordingly the projectile dependence of the sigma(L1)/sigma(L2) and si
gma(L3)/sigma(L2) ratios for the two ions shows a reversal of the tren
d seen in the case of other light ions (Z less than or equal to 14), T
he measured ionization cross sections and their ratios deviate conside
rably from the theoretical predictions.
