D. Goebel et al., THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL-DETERMINATION OF THE POLARIZABILITIES OFTHE ZINC S-1(0) STATE, Physical review. A, 54(3), 1996, pp. 1973-1978
A combined experimental and theoretical study of the polarizabilities
of the ground-state zinc atom is presented. In our interferometric mea
surements we have obtained the frequency dependence of the linear dipo
le polarizability alpha(omega) between omega=0.05E(H)<(h)over bar (-1)
> and 0.14E(H)<(h)over bar (-1)> (here E(H) is the Hartree energy). A
detailed theoretical CCSD(T) study (coupled-cluster with single and do
uble excitations and perturbational treatment of triple excitations) g
ives the static (zero-frequency) values of the linear dipole polarizab
ility alpha, the second dipole hyperpolarizability gamma, the quadrupo
le-quadrupole polarizability alpha(2), and the dipole-dipole-quadrupol
e polarizability B. From these studies we conclude with the static val
ues of alpha=38.8(8)e(2)a(0)(2)E(H)(-1) (from experiment), alpha=39.2(
8)e(2)a(0)(2)E(H)(-1) (from theory), gamma=31(6)x10(3)e(4)a(0)(4)E(H)(
-3), alpha(2)=324.8(16.2)e(2)a(0)(4)E(H)(-1), and B=-2.37(24)x10(3)e(3
)a(0)(4)E(H)(-2).
