Abstract
The role of exchange current contributions that are associated with th e short range components of the nucleon-nucleon interaction for nuclea r electromagnetic and weak transitions are reviewed. The peculiar sens itivity of first forbidden beta-transitions and nuclear pion productio n and absorption reactions to short range exchange current mechanisms is emphasized.
