Electrochemical properties of C60F46 and C70F54 have been studied by c
yclic voltammetry (CV) in CH2Cl2 containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium h
exafluorophosphate (TBAPF(6)). The electrochemical reductions of C70F5
4 are reported for the first time. The reduction potential of C70F54 i
s more positive than that of C-70 by 1.57 V. The differences in electr
ochemical properties between C70Fx and C-70 are parallel to the differ
ences between C60Fx and C-60. Based on the relationship between the re
duction potential and electron affinity (E(a)), the E(a) of C70F54 is
estimated to be ca. 4.42 eV, which is 1.76 eV larger than that of C-70
.
