Ky. Chen et Acc. Tseung, EFFECT OF NAFION DISPERSION ON THE STABILITY OF PT WO3 ELECTRODES/, Journal of the Electrochemical Society, 143(9), 1996, pp. 2703-2707
Coelectrodeposited Pt/WO3 electrodes have very high activity for the o
xidation of methanol and formic acid. However, WO3 has a slight solubi
lity at 60 degrees C in sulfuric acid media and this significantly red
uces its activity and stability. By covering such an electrode with a
thin layer of Nafion dispersion, the solubility of WO3 is reduced sign
ificantly, electrode performance is stable, and electrode activity is
not affected.
