Abstract
Soft rot and wilt symptoms were noticed on 2-year-old seed cabbage pla nts grown in field crops. Soft rot Erwinia was isolated from the disea sed tissues. Pathogenicity tests showed that the bacterium effectively colonised different vegetable species and sunflower, indicating a wid e host range. Pathogenicity, morphological, biochemical and physiologi cal characteristics showed that the investigated strains are of Erwini a carotovora subsp. carotovoua (Jones) Bergey et al.
