TV NEWSPAPERS IN ISDB - MULTIMEDIA INFORMATION BROADCASTING SERVICES

TV newspapers called PRESENT are multimedia information broadcasting s ervices which provide information programs consisting of text, still p ictures, video, and sound. PRESENT is an important application of ISDB and provides interactive programs with easy-operation. This paper fir st describes the basic functions of the multimedia information broadca sting services, interactive program presentation, multimedia structuri ng, and indexing. Second, systems for realizing interactive presentati on in the broadcasting services are discussed and the stored reception system is found to be appropriate for the PRESENT system. Multimedia structuring methods are also discussed and the layout structure, the l ogical structure, and the hyper-link structure for PRESENT are optimiz ed. It is shown that the automatic indexing method plays an important role in providing effective information access for users. Finally, the se services are tested using the experimental PRESENT system which is designed to use satellite broadcast data channels.
