The biological activity of defatted methanolic neem seed extract (MNSE
), consisting of antifeedant activity, food utilization capacity and a
dult emergence were tested in aqueous concentrations ranging from 0.25
to 2.0 per cent. The concentrations of MNSE 2.0 and 1.0 per cent prov
ed strongly antifeedant (70.15 to 75.44%) followed by 0.5 per cent and
0.25 per cent, in protecting the foliage. MNSE 0.5 to 2.0 per cent al
so proved effective in reducing the total food consumption, weight gai
n, relative consumption rate and relative growth rate.
