Vs. Bais et al., INTERRELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN CHLOROPHYLL-A AND HYDROSPHERIC FACTORS OF THE 2 FRESH-WATER LAKES - A COMPARATIVE SYNTHESIS, Journal of environmental biology, 17(3), 1996, pp. 261-267
The present investigation was carried out from November, 1988 to Octob
er, 1989 at the littoral and limnetic stations of the Sagar Lake and M
ilitary Engineering Lake to develop the relationships between chl. 'a'
content. and hydrospheric factors, and also to compare the trophic st
atus of the two lakes. In the Sagar Lake, chl. 'a'. varied from 11.54
to 117.63 mg/m(3) whereas in the Military Engineering Lake, it ranged
between 0.01 mg/m(3) and 0.64 mg/m(3). The low concentration of chl 'a
' in Military Engineering Lake was due to presence of permanent turbid
ity. Hence, it can be concluded. that light was the limiting factor fo
r primary productivity in the case of the Military Engineering Lake. R
esults obtained in the present investigation clearly indicate towards
the high trophic status of the Sagar Lake in comparision to the Milita
ry Engineering Lake.
