A series of potassium vanadium phosphates K3Sb3P2O14, K2SbPO6, KSbP2O8
, KSb2PO8, K5Sb5P2O20 and Li2+2xZn1-xGeO4 (-0.36 < x < 0.85) were synt
hesized for the first time by microwave radiation. All microwave react
ions are usually completed within 60 similar to 120 minutes at a micro
wave frequency of 2 450 MHz and power of 50 similar to 650 W. The XRD
patterns and SEM photographs indicate that the grains of samples prepa
red by microwave heating are small and uniform. Compared with the conv
entional synthetic method, the microwave dielectric heating effect not
only leads to the dramatically rapid rate of solid state reaction, bu
t also allows some control of materials' properties and reaction selec
tivity. The results of preliminary study on the mechanism oi microwave
radiation synthesis show that the heating media can stimulate the abs
orption of micro-wave radiation by the reactants, and then the ionic d
iffusion rate on the interface of reactant and product increased. The
formation of crystallites of fast ionic conductor:and the crystal grow
th were also induced by microwave dielectric loss heating.
