Abstract
A survey of some sexing methods in reptiles and a short introduction t o genital morphology in squamate reptiles is given. The bearing of the copulatory organs in female lizards and snakes - so called hemiclitor es - on some sexing methods is demonstrated and discussed. Further imp ortant distinguishing characters of hemipenes and hemiclitores are giv en, e. g. concerning the widely used probing and x-raying methods.
