Ka. Lazopoulos et S. Markatis, COMPOUND BRANCHING IN ELASTIC-SYSTEMS, Computer methods in applied mechanics and engineering, 135(1-2), 1996, pp. 187-200
The compound branching problem of elastic systems is discussed with ne
ither elimination of the passive coordinates nor orthogonalization of
the energy function. Critical conditions will be defined and the post-
critical equilibrium paths are described. Formulae are derived that ar
e proper for numerical techniques such as the Finite Element method. A
pplications illustrating the theory for a five rigid-bar model and for
the buckling of a spherical shell under hydrostatic pressure will be
presented.
