STUDIES ON THE FORMATION OF INCLUSION COMPLEXES OF DRUGS WITH BETA-CYCLODEXTRIN (CD)

Spectrophotometric studies of inclusion complex formation of beta-CD w ith donors like phenothiazine drugs and acridine dyes and with accepte rs like chloranil an trinitrobenzene have been studied in aqueous medi um. In each case a 1:1 complex formation is observed, the formation co nstants of which are determined using Benesi-Hildebrand equation. Effe ct of beta-CD on the charge transfer complexes between these two group s is found to be complicated because of larger size of the complexes c ompared to the beta-CD cavity (6-6.5 Angstrom).
