Abstract
The paper reports a study of participatory experiences among members o f power-based community organizations. A path model of psychological e mpowerment was tested. Perceived relational characteristics of the com munity organization were hypothesized as exogenous to participation, p erceived organizational power and psychological empowerment. An altern ative model was reproduced with the strongest relationships between pe rceived organizational intimacy and psychological empowerment and an i nverse relationship between perceived organizational regulation and pe rceptions of organizational power.
