Abstract
The specific hear C and mass density rho are reported for thick (>200 pm) samples of CVD diamond that span a wide range of quality from opti cally transparent to black. Based on the relatively high accuracy of t he measurements (about 1% for C and about 0.1% for rho), we find that rho and C for these samples are within 1% of the accepted values for s ingle-crystal diamond. This result validates, at least for thick sampl es, the common practice of using the single-crystal value of rho C to convert measured values of thermal diffusivity in CVD diamond to value s of thermal conductivity.
