Abstract
Over the last two years, the Swiss civil defence organization has incr eased its efforts to strengthen and optimize its capacity for emergenc y planning and mitigation management. A comparative inventory has been elaborated, classifying different potential threats in a systematic m anner. The compilation encompasses the sum of events and developments that threaten communities in the form of natural and technological dis asters and other social emergencies, their expected consequences, and the relative importance of these threats.
