Gj. Kunde et al., MULTIFRAGMENT PRODUCTION IN REACTIONS OF SN-112-112 AND SN-124+SN-124AT E(SN)A=40 MEV/, Physical review letters, 77(14), 1996, pp. 2897-2900
Multiplicities of intermediate-mass fragments (IMFs), neutrons, and ch
arged particles were measured for Sn-112 + Sn-112 and Sn-124 + Sn-124
at E/A = 40 MeV. Significantly different scalings of the mean IMF mult
iplicities with neutron and charged-particle multiplicities are observ
ed for the two reactions. These differences can be qualitatively under
stood in terms of fragment emission from an expanding evaporating sour
ce for which the initial rates of cooling by neutron and light-charged
-particle emission depend on the neutron and proton numbers of th sour
ce according to statistical expectations.
