M. Shamonin et al., OPTIMIZATION OF A NONRECIPROCAL PHASE-SHIFTER COMPRISING A MAGNETOOPTIC SLAB WAVE-GUIDE, Optics communications, 131(1-3), 1996, pp. 37-40
The problem of a nonreciprocal phase shifter is solved analytically in
the framework of first-order perturbation theory. The expression for
the differential phase shift Delta beta is valid for any set of materi
al parameters. It is shown that an optimal Delta beta is achieved for
a film thickness smaller than that for maximal power confinement. Usin
g scaled parameters and introducing a normalized nonreciprocal phase s
hift allow to obtain universal charts for the optimal film thickness a
nd the corresponding nonreciprocal phase shift.
