The four units at Ontario Hydro's Bruce A nuclear station are approach
ing the mid-point of their operating lives. Increasing incapability du
e to steam generators in particular has resulted in the creation of th
e Steam Generator Programme and the development of a specific life man
agement programme. An extensive programme of boiler inspections, clean
ing and refurbishment has been carried out. This paper will provide an
overview of the steam generator design features and the principle deg
radation mechanisms, together with details of the approach adopted to
develop the life management plan.
