Abstract
The free fatty acids and fatty acid ethyl esters present in ethanolic extracts of Sabal serrulata were analysed by supercritical fluid chrom atography. Two alternatives for capillary supercritical fluid chromato graphy of free fatty acids and fatty acid ethyl esters are proposed, n amely derivatization of the carboxyl group or use of carbon dioxide sa turated with water. Both methods produced a drastic Improvement of the resolution, The methods were validated and used to determine the amou nt of lauric acid and ethyl laurate in extracts of the title plant.
