With the formalism of differential geometry, implemented in modern com
puter graphics, mathematical structures have been developed which prov
ide the underlying geometry for an increasing range of real structures
more general than crystals and occurring both in biology and in mater
ials science. In particular the triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS
) are examined.
