Abstract
The coefficients of the successive h(2) orders of the extended Thomas- Fermi expansion of the kinetic energy density are obtained to the lead ing order in the density inhomogeneities. This is done by comparing th e corresponding static polarizability with the exact value in two case s: a non-interacting nuclear infinite system and symmetric nuclear mat ter with a Skyrme interaction.
