Abstract
The synthesis of a meso-2,3-dibenzylbutanedioic acid anhydride is give n. Reaction of this with (+)-alpha-methylbenzylamine proceeds diastere oselectively to give a butanedioic acid monoamide which is converted i nto an enantiomerically enriched cis-2,3-dibenzylbutyrolactone lignan.
