Abstract
The magnetic properties of solid solutions based on lanthanum and bism uth manganites were investigated. It is established that the substitut ion of La3+ ions by Bi3+ ones causes the transition from the ferromagn etic to the antiferromagnetic state while BiMnO3 is a ferromagnet. The results are explained in terms of the superexchange interaction via a nions and local distortions of the crystal structure.
