T. Counihan et al., TRANSNASAL INSERTION OF PERCUTANEOUS ENDOSCOPIC GASTROSTOMY IN A PATIENT WITH INTERMAXILLARY FIXATION - CASE-REPORT, The journal of trauma, injury, infection, and critical care, 41(3), 1996, pp. 530-532
We describe successful placement of a percutaneous endoscopic gastrost
omy via the transnasal approach in a patient mho required intermaxilla
ry fixation for an open mandible fracture, and required enteral nutrit
ion for chronic respiratory failure and traumatic brain injury. This m
ethod may be useful in other cases where tile transoral route is not a
vailable for endoscopic insertion of enterostomy tubes.
