Abstract
The first total synthesis of PAF antagonist marine diterpenoid phomact in D was achieved from L-ascorbic acid. This synthesis involves the fo rmation of bicyclo[2.2.]octane derivative 3 by the sequential Michael reaction, oxidative cleavage of the double bond of 4 and cyclization o f sulfone 18.
