Abstract
Reaction of various trimethyl(porphyrinylmethyl) ammonium iodides (gen erated in situ from the corresponding meso-dimethylaminomethylporphyri ns and iodomethane) with triphenylphosphine afforded triphenylporphyri nylmethylphosphonium iodides which, when subjected to mild basic hydro lysis, gave meso-methylporphyrins in high yields.
