J. Esteban et al., LOCALIZED CUTANEOUS INFECTION CAUSED BY MYCOBACTERIUM-AVIUM COMPLEX IN AN AIDS PATIENT, Clinical and experimental dermatology, 21(3), 1996, pp. 230-231
Although infection due to Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) has long b
een recognized,(1) it was not until the current AIDS epidemic that iso
lation of these mycobacteria became common in microbiology laboratorie
s. The disseminated form of the disease is the commonest type.(2) Loca
lized disease as the first manifestation of MAC infection is a rare fi
nding among these patients. Herein we report a case of localized cutan
eous infection due to MAC in an AIDS patient.
