Ng. Hoogeveen et al., CAN CHARGED (BLOCK CO)POLYMERS ACT AS STABILIZERS AND FLOCCULANTS OF OXIDES, Colloids and surfaces. A, Physicochemical and engineering aspects, 117(1-2), 1996, pp. 77-88
We have examined the use of polyelectrolytes and charged block copolym
ers as flocculants and stabilisers. The adsorbed layer was characteris
ed by adsorption data and zeta-potential measurements. Furthermore, th
e stability of Ludox dispersions in the presence of these polymers was
investigated. We conclude that charged polymers can be used both as s
tabilisers and flocculants. The in fluence that the polymers have depe
nds critically on the polymer charge, the dosage and the molar mass of
the polymers. In order to optimise their performance we formulate a n
umber of requirements for the polymers.
