Pa. Hassan et al., AGGREGATES FROM CETYLTRIMETHYLAMMONIUMHYDROXYNAPHTHALENE CARBOXYLATE (CTAHNC) - A LIGHT-SCATTERING STUDY, Colloids and surfaces. A, Physicochemical and engineering aspects, 117(1-2), 1996, pp. 89-94
A light scattering study of cetyltrimethylammoniumhydroxynaphthalene c
arboxylate (CTAHNC) is presented. In the concentration range studied (
0.07-0.6 mM) the structure of the micellar aggregate is likely to be v
esicles of size similar to 100 nm. HNC- is expected to act as a co-sur
factant which reduces the bending rigidity, k(c), of the bilayer membr
ane leading to a rough and undulating surface for the vesicles. The fr
actal dimension d approximate to 2-2.6, which fits the light scatterin
g data, supports this view. A scanning electron micrograph at a higher
concentration indicates that the aggregates are vesicles.
