For the purpose of calculating higher harmonic fields produced by an m
-phase winding the vector potential is computed analytically using Fou
rier series for the air gap, the magnetic wedge and the slot. With reg
ard to machines having a large gap the air gap field is described in c
ylindrical polar coordinates. Expressing the boundary conditions betwe
en the three areas and making use of Fourier analysis several sets of
linear equations will be obtained, the number of which is equal to slo
ts per pole and phase. The solutions yield the amplitudes of the vecto
r potential.
