Vapor-liquid equilibria and excess volumes for carbon dioxide+ethanol
and carbon dioxide+acetone were determined by a novel technique of den
sity measurement at 291, 298, 303, 308, 313K, and pressures up to 14.3
9MPa. Both solubilities of carbon dioxide in ethanol and acetone were
found to increase with applied pressure but to decrease with increasin
g temperature. Peng-Robinson equation of state and pan der Waals mixin
g rule with one adjustable interactional parameter was able to sucessf
ully correlate equilibrium data for these two systems. Most excess vol
ume in the liquid phase of these two binary mixtures showed negative d
eviation from the ideal solution.
