White prismatic crystals of formula Sb(dpk.OCH3)(O2C6H4) were synthesi
zed from the reaction of Sb(O2C6H4)F and dpk in methanol solution. The
complex has been characterized by X-ray crystallography and Mossbauer
spectroscopy. The crystal structure is characterized by a previously
unknown (ON)-N-boolean AND coordinating mode of the dpk.OCH3 ligand. T
he Sb ion coordination geometry is of the AX(4)Y(2)E type, with four p
rimary bonds due to the chelation of the dpk.OCH3 and of the catechola
to ligands, while the two secondary contacts with the oxygens of a cat
echolate and two dpk.OCH3 ligands of adjacent molecules determine the
chain formation. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
