Abstract
Extension of the highly fluorescent Donor-bridge-Acceptor molecule ''F luoroprobe'' (FP) with a reactive maleimide group is reported. The res ulting ''maleimido-Fluoroprobe'' (MFP) is found to be non-fluorescent, but upon reaction with thiols and amines the FP fluorescence is resto red, thus yielding derivatives that share its polarity and mobility se nsitivity, thereby enabling the covalent incorporation of FP reporter- sites in (bio)macro-molecules and other supramolecular structures.
