Single crystals of LiFe5O8 and Y3Fe5O12 are of considerable interest f
or microwave applications. These were grown by spontaneous crystalliza
tion from fluxed melts by slow cooling. The quality of the obtained cr
ystals were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and by measuring of the char
acteristic parameters (saturation magnetization sigma(s), Curie temper
ature T-C, density D, hardness H-V). Although the both ferrites involv
e Fe3+ as the only magnetic ions which are responsible for the magneti
c properties of these ferrites, several essential differences are foun
d attributing to the particularity of their crystalline structure.
